Spiritual Direction Training

The Springs is delighted to host a two year certificate program that prepares you to serve as a spiritual director. The in-person training is through Sustainable Faith—and led by Sibyl Towner, Joan Kelley, and Gail Donahue.

This program forms students in the art of compassionate, discerning listening to God, to others, and to themselves. Through contemplative practices, readings, group discussions, and real experiences of giving and receiving direction, participants grow in their own lives with God and are equipped to walk alongside others in theirs.

The Next Year 1 Cohort begins in 2026. Here are the dates for the five in-person modules of Year 1: Sept 14-16, 2026, Nov 9-11, 2026, Jan 11-13, 2027, March 8-10, 2027, May 10-12, 2027.

Ignatian Journey Retreats

The Ignatian Journey is a modern-day experience of the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola, offered annually at The Springs beginning each fall and guided by Sibyl Towner and Lori Shoults.

As Kevin O’Brien writes in The Ignatian Adventure: “The purpose of the Exercises is very practical: to grow in union with God, who frees us to make good decisions about our lives and to ‘help souls.’ Ignatius invites us into an intimate encounter with God, revealed in Jesus Christ, so that we can learn to think and act more like Christ."

Participants journey together in a cohort of about 12, meeting at The Springs for four two-day retreats throughout the year. Between retreats, the experience continues with daily assignments and biweekly small group Zoom calls.
